Ebola: Uganda Strengthens Measures to Prevent Virus Reintroduction

Rwanda and Uganda are intensifying their efforts to contain the threat of Ebola re-emergence. Travelers returning from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) must undergo a 21-day quarantine at their own expense, in line with new strict measures announced by the Ugandan Ministry of Health on October 25. These measures aim to prevent any potential spread of the virus across the shared border with the DRC. The transboundary cooperation is becoming crucial in this fight. Security forces and health services from both countries are working in synergy to strengthen controls at border points. This collaboration comes amid an ongoing epidemic in the DRC, where several cases have been reported recently. As an active member of the African Union, Uganda is implementing enhanced vigilance protocols to protect its population. Travel restrictions, although difficult to accept for some, highlight the urgency of the situation. Authorities remind that every individual has a role to play in prevention. This rigorous approach, combined with increased awareness, forms the cornerstone of the fight against this devastating disease. Authorities stress the necessity of respecting these measures to avoid a worsening of the crisis. ⚡ Key Points ▸ Security forces and health services from both countries are working in synergy to strengthen controls at border points. ▸ This rigorous approach, combined with increased awareness, forms the cornerstone of the fight against this devastating disease. ▸ As an active member of the African Union, Uganda is implementing enhanced vigilance protocols to protect its population.
