Kais Saied: 'Agriculture, pillar of national security...'

Kais Saied has placed agriculture at the center of his priorities, stating that this sector is an indispensable pillar of national security. In a context marked by economic and environmental challenges, the president has emphasized the need to optimize the potential of specialized agronomic institutes. These research centers, he said, must play a key role in modernizing agricultural practices and combating crises related to climate and drought. Tunisian agriculture is facing increased constraints, notably the scarcity of water resources and the decline in productivity. Saied reminded that food security is intrinsically linked to political and social stability. He called for close collaboration between public institutions, researchers, and producers to innovate and ensure the resilience of the sector. This approach, he added, would enable agriculture to become a driver of sustainable growth. The president also highlighted the importance of agriculture as a lever for employment and reducing inequalities. By investing in technology and training, the government aims to position Tunisia as a major player in regional agricultural production. This strategy, which combines research and development, must be accompanied by reforms in agricultural policies to meet the expectations of Tunisians.
