⚠️ Urgent Update — Flash Radio is following this situation in real time. Olfa Hamdi, 38, former CEO of the national airline Tunisair, whom she led for a few weeks at the start of 2021, and president of a phantom party created in 2022 called the Third Republic, is a unique case in Tunisian politics. Coming from nowhere (from the business world, people say), driven by an insatiable thirst for power, she threw herself into the fray, body and soul, without a net, burning all her bridges and not backing down from any danger. ⏱️ 3 min read. The facts and recent developments. For her and the country, things have not gone in the direction she wanted. Far from it... Latif Belhédi. Ambitious and confident, Olfa Hamdi announced in 2024 her intention to run for president, but she was unable to participate in the election due to not meeting the minimum age requirement of 40 years. It was this recklessness bordering on carelessness that some appreciate about her, which led to her being sentenced by the military court to four years in prison on charges including plotting against state security and inciting the military to disobedience. Incarcerated since her arrest on February 15th at Tunis-Carthage International Airport, upon her return from a trip abroad, under an arrest warrant issued at the request of the military judiciary, her supporters have not been heard much, if at all, given that her party may not have enough members to defend her and demand her release. In reality, her supporters have largely disappeared overnight, and the young woman found little support to carry her voice. To the point where she was almost forgotten until her lawyer, Akram Moussa, announced the opening of her trial and informed AFP of her conviction by the military court in Tunis to four years in prison.
