Wise or Revolut for sending money to Tunisia and paying without fees? Comparison of rates, fees, cards, and ATM withdrawals in Tunis: save up to 400 euros a year. 💱 The match: real exchange rate vs hidden margins. Wise applies the real interbank rate plus a disclosed fee (0.5 to 1% to the dinar). Revolut is free within the package (200-400 euros/month of free exchange), then 0.5 to 1% beyond the limit, with an increase in weekend fees on certain currencies. For sending 1,000 euros to Tunisia each month, Wise costs about 8 euros versus 0 to 12 euros at Revolut, depending on the package. Beyond 2,000 euros/month, Wise almost always wins. Both outperform traditional banks (hidden fees of 30 to 50 euros per transfer).
💳 Paying and withdrawing in Tunisia. Both cards work in Tunisian ATMs (BIAT, Attijari, Amen Bank): expect 5 to 10 Tunisian dinars in local operator fees per withdrawal, with daily limits of 1,000 to 2,000 Tunisian dinars. Pay in Tunisian dinars (not euros) when the terminal offers it to avoid forced conversion by the merchant. Revolut shines for multi-country travel (included insurance in the Premium package ~8 euros/month); Wise excels for regular transfers to a Tunisian account with local banking details in 10 currencies. 🛡️ Opening an account: documents and deadlines. Passport or ID card + selfie + proof of address (French or Tunisian accepted in most cases). Verification in 24-48 hours. Open 100% online, immediate European IBAN, physical card arrives in one week. Note: Neither Wise nor Revolut can replace a Tunisian account for receiving local salaries or paying STEG by direct debit. Winning combination for diaspora: classic FR account + Wise/Revolut + Tunisian account. ✅ Verdict 2026. Large monthly transfers to Tunisia → Wise. Multi-country nomadic life + insurance → Revolut. Many use both (free in basic form) and use each for its strength. Enable instant notifications, block the card from the app in case of loss, and always keep a second card from another network (Visa + Mastercard) when traveling. Read more on Flash Radio Tunisia.
