Tunisia Boosts Energy Budget for 2027

Good news — Flash Radio shares this positive update with you. Tunisia is giving unprecedented priority to its energy sector by allocating 7.89 billion dinars in 2027, a 48.2% increase from 2026. This decision comes amid recurring electricity crises and ambitious climate goals. The power cuts of summer 2026, caused by an imbalance between production and consumption, highlighted the vulnerabilities of the system. The government is now committed to avoiding a return to this situation by heavily investing in renewable energy production and stock management. These measures are part of a climate emergency context, with strict targets for reducing energy intensity and developing clean sources. Regionally, this Tunisian strategy fits into a broader movement aiming to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. In the Mediterranean, where countries facing energy crises share similar challenges, the shift to renewable energy is becoming a competitiveness lever. Tunisia, by allocating 129.4 MDT to special funds, is committed to balancing economic growth and environmental preservation, a delicate but essential balance. The 6.9 MDT dedicated to investment highlights the intent to modernize the electricity network and strengthen resilience against crises. Yet, the success of this plan will depend on coordination between public and private actors, as well as the ability to maintain a sustained investment pace. In the medium term, this strategy could position Tunisia as a key player in the Mediterranean energy transition, while stabilizing its economy against climate and energy challenges.
